Dive trips are custom scheduled for groups of six divers and planned based on the kinds of diving the group is interested in doing. We can often fit individuals in to trips with others. Monhegan Island is a very popular destination because of the beautiful scenery, the great underwater terrain, and the abundance of marine life. In addition to the dramatic walls, we can often find seals to dive with. We have our own wreck site for advanced divers. The Scottish Pride is a 44 ft. steel fishing vessel which is fully intact and lies offshore in 115’-120’ of water. The wreck is penetrable and there is an profusion of marine life to see.
We offer shark cage trips during August when the sharks are the most abundant in Maine waters. These are offshore, all-day trips which are custom scheduled for groups of six divers. We arrange for individuals to fit into groups whenever possible. Sharks are chummed to the boat and divers can expect to see Blue Sharks up to 12 ft. and 400 lbs. in size. Occasionally we see larger sharks such as Makos, Porbeagle (Mackerel) and Thresher Sharks. The cage is designed and constructed to maximize photo opportunities while at the same time providing security for the divers.
These dives are conducted near the surface and can be enjoyed by divers with at least a Basic Open Water Scuba certification. Divers supply their own equipment and should wear 6-7 mm wetsuits or drysuits since the water temperature ranges in the high 50s to 60s. We do have dive gear available for rent if needed. Even though these dives are done in approximately 500 feet of water, the depth of the cage is approximately 10 feet so these dives can be done by divers with Basic Scuba Certifications. Buoyancy control is very important while in the cage and we recommend divers wear extra weight and no fins to make it easier to stand in the cage.
